I have used this Nikon D50 (Read Expert KenRockwell Review) and it has never let me down. This is a work-horse. Above are two landscape pictures I shot with this kit this afternoon, in Auto mode, Jpeg, with SB600 flash. How easy was that? It just makes perfect exposures! The D50 does some things better than the D40 as follows: It has auto bracketing, and has a lcd parameters quick display on the top, and can drive mechanical focus lenses.

Compare to the D3100 that goes for $699 + tax, that doesn’t even come with a long zoom (+$399), doesn’t even come with a much needed external flash (+$199)!: D3100 configured as this kit: $699 + $399 + $199 = $1297 + tax. My kit works, and it costs less that half the price, and comes with an extra SB400 flash ($110). My Kit is a deal for those who want to upgrade from a point-and-shoot to a DSLR! More megapixels don’t make better photos, it’s all in the light (hence the flashes) and the lenses.
